Does it Need to be This HARD?
I find myself wondering why it needs to be this HARD to get Governments to listen, to lead by example.
I believe in humanity to do the right thing, and at the same time I know few will want to give up their conveniences.
Technology Runaways
Let’s face it, our gadgets are supremely inefficient. The technology which sent probes into space was built with far more exacting energy requirements.
Why have we lost the will to demand the same. Even now with new technology, we are getting larger capacity batteries rather than focusing on reducing the load needed to present information clearly on a screen.
We really must do better at demanding that from those that design and build for us. Unless we do, will remain in the clutches of the big energy companies who have a vested interest in squeezing every penny of profit that they can, destroying supplies of one-use fossil fuels and releasing greenhouse gases.
Radical Switch Needed Now
There are major initiatives in place to plant many trees. However, it will take decades to replace the lungs from the forests fires destroyed in Siberia, in the Amazon and other regions in 2019.
It is time to demand a swift radical swift move to using sustainable bamboo and hemp to replace the cutting of mature trees which are better places to help absorb CO2 and other contaminants from the air. Paper products of all kinds, including the lowly bog roll.
We need to demand this and choose wisely in the meantime, choosing 100% recycled paper.
Becoming Carbon Negative
Currently only one country is carbon negative, taking more greenhouse gases from their air than it emits.
Trees alone won’t fix our issues, we also need to reverse the growth in areas of the sea which are starved of oxygen.
Constructing ways to make better use of CO2 emissions from plants goes hand in hand with deploying machines which take CO2 out of the air or seawater.
Dragging Governments Forward
Governments will be under increasing pressure to lower carbon emissions. I believe we need a new set of metrics to judge our efficacy.
This may be one grassroots initiative led by the next generation of thinkers and inventors which may provide the solutions which will prevent us from racing to the bottom.
Do your bit to find out about Environmental policies which can help and get started lobbying for them locally.
